Like a Western, the book has a strong sense of place. He disturbs the established order and brings hidden things into the light. In addition to being a mystery, however, The Searcher is also inspired by Western tropes and begins with an enigmatic stranger (Cal) coming to town and shaking things up. It has a mystery at its heart: what has happened to Trey’s brother? Has he left to get away from the small town life? Has he got involved in something he shouldn’t have and been kidnapped by somebody bad? ![]() This is a new standalone novel from Tana French and the first set outside her native Dublin. ![]() However, when a local kid, Trey, comes in search of his help, Cal finds himself entangled in the case of a missing boy.
